PÜR Cosmetics Blue Light Filter Range (HEV)

That is the impact of High Energy Visible Light (HEV) or Blue Light is a relatively new topic here in the UK. Although in the Japanese beauty community, this has now been well discussed. Now with the growing momentum some brands are now beginning to take note.

So What Is It?

Historically we would get our Blue Light from the sun, which also helps to regulate sleep patterns. Not only is it pretty much everywhere it’s also what makes the sky look blue. It’s actually good for us with those with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) using it through light therapy in the Winter months to help with the impacts of lack of it. Our circadian rhythm relies on it to regulate our natural wakefulness and sleep cycle. The challenge is not so much the light itself but our level of exposure to it.

Modern times have resulted in it being more wide spread with many of our regularly used devices emitting it. These include smart phones, televisions, LED lighting and computers. What this means is that the everyday household set up is directly impacting quality of sleep. On average a person spends 8 hours 41 minutes in front of a screen, more than the average sleep a person gets a day. (According to Silent Night Researchers) As well as disturbed sleep patterns is has been found that it can cause eyestrain and headaches. You may have noticed that there are a lot of filter lenses now on the market because of this.

In terms of our skin there are two main ways this light may be causing issues. Firstly it has been linked to producing oxidative stress in live skin and secondly pigmentation both of which are basically premature aging. HEV can penetrate deeper than both UVA and UVB all the way to the dermis. This can also cause uneven skin completion.
