Cozy Up with These Must-Watch Classic Autumn/Halloween Movies

As the autumn season rolls in, it’s the perfect time to cosy up with some classic movies that’ll get you into the Halloween spirit. Whether you’re a fan of horror comedy or just looking for a cosy movie night, we’ve got you covered. Here are some must-watch autumn/Halloween movies that are sure to give you all the spooky vibes:

Mean Girls (2004)

While not a traditional Halloween movie, Mean Girls has become known for its iconic line, “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was. It’s October 3rd.” The movie follows a high school girl who falls in with a popular crowd and learns some important life lessons along the way. I love this movie so I will never pass an opportunity to rewatch it.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

A Disney classic Halloween movie that has become a cult favourite among fans. This movie follows a group of kids who accidentally resurrect three witches on Halloween night. It’s a fun and lighthearted movie that’s perfect for the whole family. For many people like me, the original Hocus Pocus movie is a beloved childhood memory. It’s a movie that people grew up watching, and it holds a special place in their hearts. The sequels may try to capture this nostalgia factor, but they can never replicate the feeling of watching the original movie for the first time. That is why I have the original here over the others.

Practical Magic (1998)

This movie follows two sisters who come from a long line of witches. With a curse on their family, they must come together to break the curse and save themselves and their loved ones. It’s a fun and magical movie that’s perfect for the autumn season. Practical Magic is probably one of my favourite movies who knew that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman would be such an iconic duo?

The Craft (1996)

Feel like this one is so overlooked but, this movie follows a group of teenage witches who use their powers to get revenge on those who have wronged them. It’s a movie that’s full of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the 90s.

Interview with the Vampire (1994)

This movie follows a vampire named Louis who tells his life story to a journalist. The movie is full of gothic horror and is perfect for fans of vampire movies. This was pre-Tom possible days and I’d probably say it is one of my favourite movies of his.

The Addams Family (1991)

This movie follows the strange and spooky Addams family as they try to save their home from a conniving lawyer and his wife. It’s a classic movie that’s perfect for the whole family.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

This movie is a retelling of the classic story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. It’s a dark and moody movie that’s perfect for a spooky autumn night.

Beetlejuice (1988)

This movie follows a recently deceased couple who hire an obnoxious ghost named Beetlejuice to help them scare away the new occupants of their home. It’s a quirky and fun movie that’s perfect for the autumn season.

Scream (1996)

This classic horror movie follows a group of teenagers who are being stalked by a masked killer. It’s a movie that’s both scary and self-aware, making it perfect for a classic movie night. The iconic “hello Sidney” line gets me everytime.

Final Destination 3 (2006)

Back in the time period where the teen slasher genre dominated this movie follows a group of high school students who cheat death on a rollercoaster ride, only to have death come back to collect their souls one by one. It’s a movie that’s full of suspense and gore, making it perfect for those who love a good teen slasher movie. I’m unsure why but the mix of humour and horror made this one my favourite of all the Final Destination movies.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This movie perfectly blends Halloween and Christmas, making it a great choice for the latter part of autumn. The story follows Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who discovers Christmas Town and decides to take over the holiday.

TV Series to get you in the mood

If you are hoping for something to keep you going through the entire season then here are some must-watch Halloween TV series to rewatch:

Charmed

This classic TV show follows three sisters who discover they are witches and must fight against evil forces. The show’s Halloween episodes are always full of magic and spookiness, with episodes like “All Halliwell’s Eve” and “Sight Unseen.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Another iconic classic TV show perfect for Halloween. From vampires to demons, the show is full of supernatural creatures. The show’s Halloween episodes are always a fan favourite, with episodes like “Halloween” and “Fear, Itself.”

These are just a few of the classic autumn/Halloween movies and TV Series that are perfect for getting you into the spooky spirit. So grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and enjoy some classic movies that are sure to give you all the autumn feels.
